Web Apps are going mainstream
This announcement went under the radar.
Massive web app improvements for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
It’s now possible to add websites to home-screen in all browsers and make web apps appear full-screen when opened.
This makes web apps appear just like native apps on people’s devices.
Web apps can also send push notifications, which appear the same as other notifications.
Hats off to Apple’s Safari team for finally making this happen.
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) have been a thing in Android and Windows for a long time. But they didn’t get mass adaptation because it was limited to those platforms.
This is about to change.
We created a PWA back in the day if you like to try it on your device.
I’d moved to Sweden and struggled to plan my life in weeks (like Swedes do), so we created a web app for it.
This works on iOS 16.4 or greater, and macOS Sonoma (coming soon).
